Today we drove from Lake Constance to Liechtenstein and then on to Zurich. Liechtenstein lies between Austria and Switzerland and is 160 square kilometres in area and has around 35,000 inhabitants. The capital is Vaduz, the official language is German and currency is the Swiss Franc. Liechtenstein is a monarchy and much to the boys relief, the castle is not open to the public.
We had our passports stamped (not a requirement) for a souvenir. Around 40,000 other tourists do the same thing each year. Had a walk around the town centre and then left. Next stop Zurich.
The kids weren't too interested until they discovered that Zurich is home to the Lindt chocolate factory. Unfortunately, the Lindt chocolate factory is not considered a tourist destination by the manufacturers of Garmin GPS. However, thanks to our dedication and persistence we managed to find it anyway. Just followed our noses.
I had heard that the factory had tours but when we asked we were told that they no longer conduct tours due to hygiene reasons. To apologize the receptionist gave the kids a box of chocolates each. We then went into the shop with these chocolates and stocked up on other essential comfort foods. The non-English speaking cash register operator tried to charge us for the boys gifts but when someone managed to interpret for us they gave them more chocolates to apologise - again. Naturally, the kids would love to return. Frequently!!
Zurich is very expensive and we didn't see many sights. Loved the system in the car parks. There is a light above each car park bay which is green when empty and changes to red when a car drives into the spot. Eash to spot the empty spaces from a distance.
We had a bit of a wander around the city.
